Embracing the Shadows: A Year of Triumphs and Trials

As the frost of December settles and the year winds down, it’s time to reflect on all the incredible milestones Dark One Games has achieved in 2024. It’s been a year of challenges, creativity, and triumphs, and we couldn’t have done it without our amazing community of gamers and supporters. Here’s a look back at our journey this year

Production Milestones

Cthulhu Rises!! (beta edition) hit the virtual shelves early in the year, delivering cosmic terror and strategic delight to tables worldwide.

Holiday Rollout’s beta tests were finalized shortly thereafter, proving that festive dice-rolling mayhem is the perfect antidote to winter doldrums.

We sourced production for Holiday Rollout, managing everything from custom dice to charming tokens, ensuring every box was packed with thematic joy. Our first samples from facilities in the United States, China, and Pakistan marked a new stepping stone in developing a quality control methodology. Upon a successful inspection, orders were sent through the veil into the Abyss for a small self-funded production run.

Conventions and Community

We confirmed exhibitor status at TotalCon and Rising Phoenix GameCon for 2025! We’re especially thrilled to announce our participation in Rising Phoenix GameCon, where we’ll be part of a two-hour panel. Join us Friday from 7-9 PM as we delve into the art and craft of game design from concept to production.

Content and Creativity

In addition to our projects, we took on a bold challenge this year: the 30-day blog challenge. Every day for a month, Madness In The Margins delivered fresh, darkly atmospheric posts exploring topics ranging from hidden movement games to the enduring charm of retro RPGs. The challenge pushed our creativity and helped us connect even more deeply with our readers. Madness In The Margins, continues to grow as a haven for board game enthusiasts. With posts exploring the evolution of genres like worker placement and tableau-building, we’ve blended dark, atmospheric storytelling with a love for gaming. Video content also became a focus, from unboxings to thematic deep dives into the world of board games

Pad Thai: (Barking excitedly) Sparkle, what’s life like in the workshop these days?

Sparkle Jinglefoot: Busy as ever, Pad Thai. We’ve upgraded from wooden toy trains to AI-powered sled companions. But let me tell you, the 3D printers have a mind of their own…or maybe it’s just gremlins.

Frodo: (Wagging tail) Gremlins, huh? Sounds like our kind of mischief. What’s the most popular toy request this year?

Sparkle Jinglefoot: Surprisingly, it’s not all tech. Retro is in. Board games, especially ones with a touch of the dark and whimsical, like Cthulhu Rises!!! or Holiday Rollout, are topping the lists.

Frodo: (Ears perked up) Music to our ears! Speaking of whimsical, do the reindeer ever…you know, prank the elves?

Sparkle Jinglefoot: All the time. Just last week, Dasher swapped out our peppermint hot cocoa with…carrot juice. Let’s just say, it wasn’t well received.
