Industry Tremors: A Reckoning in Cardboard and Ink

As the economic tides surge with wrathful abandon, the tabletop realm trembles. Tariffs, recently raised to a catastrophic 145%, have breached the sanctum walls of several beloved institutions. Some have fallen. Others now wander in administrative purgatory. Below, we inscribe their names:

• Final Frontier Games – Lost to the void. The makers of Merchants Cove and The Sixth Realm closed their gates following crippling debt and a failed localization deal. The tariffs were the final nail in the coffin.

• Boardlandia – Once a beacon for the frugal and fervent, this major online retailer shuttered operations, citing the new tariffs as an “unsustainable burden.”

• Underdog Games – Known for Trekking the National Parks, they laid off most of their staff last week. The toll of tariff-related costs left their ranks scattered, searching for safer ground.

• CMON – No longer crowdfunding, no longer developing. Layoffs sweep the creative chambers. They now focus only on fulfilling their massive backlog, more than $26 million worth of promises.

• Greater Than Games – Creators of Spirit Island and Sentinels of the Multiverse have closed operations, their parent company citing the devastating blow of rising tariffs as the key disruptor.

• Stonemaier Games – Still standing, but defiant. The publisher has filed a federal lawsuit against the U.S. government, claiming these tariffs threaten their very existence. A bold and historic move. The court date is yet to be inscribed in the stars. Here is a link to their announcement.

Our Path Forward: The Slow-Burning Ritual

As others collapse beneath the weight of cargo and coin, we choose another path: the long game.

We possess stock. We possess sanity (mostly). We shall ride out the storm with our current inventory of Holiday Rollout and Cthulhu Rises!!. We do not foresee any new manufacturing until the dark tides calm.

Instead, we focus inward: enhancing the Dark One brand, deepening our ties to the community, and conjuring the next great game from the Abyss.

Summoning Cthulhu is our next title, an unholy cooperative descent for 2 to 5 Cultists bound by shared purpose and dwindling sanity. Your circle will gather forbidden relics, conduct unspeakable rites, and navigate the growing suspicions of those who would see your ritual undone. The world’s end isn’t just a possibility, it’s the goal.

Whispers From Beyond The Ethos

Seekers of the obscure, sometimes, the stars align… and sometimes, the office descends into madness over a plushie and biscuit availability. This month, with no interview from the mortal realm, we turn inward to the archives, the kennels, and the chaos. What follows is a heated exchange between our in-house familiars, Frodo and Pad Thai, who had feelings about the tariffs and their most sacred supplies...

Frodo: (Bouncing in with an abused Cthulhu Comfort Creature) Did you hear, Pad Thai? Tariffs! Big ones! That means fewer toys. Fewer squeaks. Fewer chewable miniatures! We’re doomed.

Pad Thai: (Sniffs with disdain) I don’t see the issue. You destroy every toy within twelve seconds. What difference does it make?

Frodo: (Gasping) Blasphemy! They bring me joy. You don’t even use toys.

Pad Thai: I study them. Observe. Ponder. You wouldn’t understand, your brain’s half kibble.

Frodo: (Offended, the chewing and drooling intensifies)

Pad Thai: But it’s not just your ridiculous squeaky things. These tariffs will affect treats. Imports. Flavors. Textures. What if they stop making the lamb jerky with the rosemary glaze?

Frodo: You spit that out every time!!!

Pad Thai: That’s not the point. I might want it later.

Frodo: (Whimpering) So… less games… less toys… less treats?

Pad Thai: Yup.

Frodo: (Shaking Furriously) Fewer toys?! AAAAAAH!

Pad Thai: (Smugly licking paw) We now live in dark times. We hoard what we have. Guard the plushies. Bury the biscuits. Summon something old and terrible to fix it.

Frodo: …like Dad?

Pad Thai: Exactly.
