Greetings, Seeker of the Arcane,

New England decided to remind us yet again who is really in charge by dropping feet of snow on the region, the largest storm we’ve seen since 2011. Roads were buried, shovels were summoned, and for a brief moment, it looked like even the ancient ones might stay home. But conventions wait for no weather, and so TotalCon 40 arrived, and we all rejoiced once again. Despite the snow dampening overall attendance a bit, the Dark One Games table stayed busy throughout the weekend. Old friends returned, new players joined the madness, and the dice rolled well into the night.

In the cold expanse of the unfeeling cosmos, we find ourselves at the commencement of another sun cycle. Within these enigmatic pages, I, your humble archivist, relay the most peculiar and mind-bending updates from the realms of Dark One Games and the larger universe of board game lore. Prepare your minds for the most uncanny revelations.

Summoning Cthulhu – A Convention Hit

The highlight of the convention for us was putting the pre-preproduction copy of Summoning Cthulhu through its paces. We played more than a dozen games over the course of the convention, and the response was exactly what a designer hopes for after dragging a creation out of the Abyss.

The energy was chaotic, and the feedback was encouraging and genuinely helpful. Having both casual gamers and Mythos fans revel in the cosmic vibes feels like a good omen… or at least a survivable one.

There is nothing quite like watching a table of Cultists scheming while writhing on the edge of their seats, waiting as each die from the roll settles… followed by a collective gasp or scream at the final result.

Your feedback helps shape the game, and we greatly appreciate everyone who sat down to play. And given the excitement around the table, we are pleased to announce that Summoning Cthulhu will be launching on Kickstarter later this year.

Cthulhu Rises!!: A Convention Staple

As the evenings wore on and the convention halls started to thin out, a familiar ritual would take shape. Our final game of the night, Cthulhu Rises!! to close things out before the convention halls go quiet. It has become something of a tradition.

What usually happens next is even better. People walking by hear the laughter, see the accusations flying across the table, and before long, a few more chairs get pulled in. Suddenly, the “last game of the night” turns into a full table of returning players, new recruits, and the occasional innocent bystander who had no idea what they were getting into.

There is a special moment in every game when the table shifts from casual conversation to full-blown suspicion. Alliances crumble, fingers start pointing, and someone realizes far too late that the person they trusted most may, in fact, be working for the cult. That moment never gets old.

Holiday Rollout Returns

Not everything at the Dark One Games tables involves cosmic dread and secret cults. We also managed to run about half a dozen games of Holiday Rollout during the convention.

It was great seeing players return from previous events, specifically to play it again. Of course, we also had plenty of new players sit down and discover that holiday cheer can become surprisingly competitive. Especially, once the dice start rolling, and items start getting ripped out of your scoring pile.

It usually begins with friendly conversation and festive enthusiasm, but it rarely ever ends that way.
