Frodo: Growing up, your dad was quite the Dungeon Master, wasn't he? It's said that you were more than just a spectator—you actually had a hand in crafting those epic campaigns. Can you share one of your favorite memories or contributions from that time? Kaelie: One of my favorite memories is using a modeling kit to build the structures that the party was meant to explore. Making paths to follow and setting traps along the way. It was a fun way to contribute and add a bit of unpredictability for the adults of the group. Belle: Agreed, I remember getting to setup Maps for his D&D group. I thought it was very fun getting to plan what would happen to people. Plus get hands-on and actually make the boards. Pad Thai: With all the years spent around your dad, his gaming circle, and countless gaming events, you've undoubtedly met a plethora of unique characters. Could you tell us about one particularly memorable and eccentric person you’ll never forget no matter how hard you try? Kaelie: Apparently not, as I don’t remember anyone who quite fits the bill. Often, I see lots of interesting people at such events but rarely have the time to get to know them well enough. Pad Thai: I see, going the PC route, eh. How about you Belle, You’re not afraid to get a little brutal. Belle: I’d say Judy! We’ve all been gaming together for a very long time. I essentially grew up knowing her and even though I wouldn’t play the D&D games I would help. And whenever I go over her house especially when I was younger she always made sure I was comfortable, and that there was somewhere I could relax. I watched a lot of shows and movies with Paul, or did something else fun like dog play, and not just be stuck doing nothing. Pad Thai: Let's get Improbable! In a parallel universe where board games are sentient beings. What kind of personality would your favorite game have? Perhaps a boastful Monopoly bragging about its high rent rates, or a cooperative Pandemic constantly worried about the next infection? Kaelie: My favorite board games tend to be based in nature, such as Forest Shuffle or Flourish. I think that the personality would be full of life, with a steady presence and analytical/strategic tendencies. Nature rarely boasts, but it can make quite an impression by just existing. Belle: I think my favorite game werewolf, would be very sneaky and deceptive and try to find out people’s secrets without sharing any of their own. Frodo: Board game designers are known for finding inspiration in the most unexpected places. Have you ever encountered a real-life situation that was so strange, complex, or awkward that you thought, 'This needs to be turned into one of my dad’s games'? Kaelie: I don’t know, but I often imagine it more as a reality show than anything else, haha. If anything, it would probably be Dad observing us and thinking that. Belle: Oh yeah, last year with my hip surgeries there were always jokes about me being a real-life operation game. I think that could be funny, especially if weird things happen. Like with the way I have a piece of metal stuck in my hip now. Frodo & Pad Thai: There are two of you so we get double treats now, right?
